The Raspberry Pi is a small low cost computer on a credit card size board originally conceived for educational purposes to get more young people involved in computer programming. Hobbiests have also taken to it for various applications due to its low cost and expandability with GPIO pins. It boots Linux from SD card, so its capabilities can be broad or specific by just swapping out the SD card and rebooting.
